Backstop Reverse Braking System
DON'T BACK UP WITH OUT IT!

What Is Backstop?

Backstop is an AUTOMATIC REVERSE BRAKING SYSTEM that reacts to pressure.
It applies a moving vehicle's brakes instantly upon contact with another object, minimizing the damage and injury from reverse motion collisions.

How Does Backstop Work?

Backstop automatically activates the brakes when light pressure (0.05 psi) is applied to the rear bumper. The instant any stable object (ex. a loading dock, fire hydrant, baby carriage, tree, vehicle, bystander, etc.) comes into contact with the touch-sensitive bumper, the displaced air from the rubber sensor is detected by the control unit and switches the B.A.S.V.
(Brake Activating Solenoid Valve), thus releasing normal brake air-pressure through the double check valve. This seals the line from the driver's foot-brake, and proceeds to activate the relay valve, automatically applying and locking the vehicle's brakes. When the brakes are locked, the vehicle cannot move until the driver shifts out of reverse gear.

How Is Backstop Installed?

The entire Reverse Braking System has been specially engineered for over-all efficiency. It comes in an easy-to-install kit, and is designed to attach to the rear of a vehicle that is equipped with air brakes. The rubber sensor is usually located on the vehicle's rear under-run bar, but multiple sensors can also be fitted at various other locations depending on the level of protection required. Any number of sensors can be inter-connected, affording increased protection. This Fire Truck Is Equipped With A BACKSTOP Bumper

Backstop CAN BE INSTALLED by your fire equipment distributor, your fire truck repair center, or you may choose to install it yourself. The estimated installation time is 3-4 hours.
